Thomas' story

Thomas Wormleaton has spinal muscular atrophy, an inherited degenerative condition that affects the muscles. He is unable to walk and uses a power wheelchair. After reading an article in the Leader in May 2018, we were moved to support his family to purchase a vehicle that could be modified to transport Thomas in his wheelchair.

In October 2018, we held a trivia night and raised $12,500. We sought an additional grant from the Australian Lions Foundation which brought the total to $22,500. Together with funds from Engadine Rotary, the Rotary Australia Benevolent Society and a Go Fund Me campaign, enough was raised to purchase a Kia Carnival.

Lioness Members Elizabeth, Jenni and Sue were proud to be present at the handover of the van

to the Wormleaton family in August 2019. A wonderful community collaboration to support a family in need.
